Conversion of a listed service station
The Deitingen South motorway service station on the A1 in Switzerland has a long and important history. Built in 1968, it represents an architectural testament to early Swiss motorway infrastructure. The striking curved concrete arches of the listed concrete shell roof are characteristic of this construction.
Following a comprehensive nine-month long renovation phase and an investment of eight million francs, the service station has been unveiled with modernised interiors and a new catering concept. The restoration of the concrete roof and renovation of the interiors were part of the project, which aimed to preserve its historical substance, at the same time as offering contemporary comfort.
KaCool D AF fan coils with powder-coated metal panels were installed to effectively and energy-efficiently air condition the building. UniLine door air curtains protect the entrance area from draughts and help to create a pleasant indoor climate without adversely affecting the architectural features of the service station. These modernisation measures reflect the aim of providing guests with a contemporary and comfortable environment along one of Switzerland’s busiest motorways.
With this project, Marché Restaurants Schweiz AG is setting an example of the appreciation of historical buildings and adapting them to modern standards of hospitality and energy efficiency.
