Revived traditional department store in central Berlin:
Building owner: High Gain House Investments GmbH
Town/City: Berlin
The Leipziger Platz is not as famous as its neighbouring Potsdamer Platz, but is nevertheless a place steeped in history. Consumer history was written here at the end of the 19th century with the Wertheim department store, Europe's largest and most beautiful department store. During the National Socialist era, the Jewish Wertheim family was dispossessed. In 1944 the architecturally innovative building was seriously damaged by Allied bombs and was finally torn down in 1955. This was followed by years of deceptive calm at the Leipziger Platz, as the Berlin Wall crossed the octagonal square. Following reunification, the square was gradually revitalised and – with the opening of the "Mall of Berlin" in September 2014 – it literally has its department store tradition back.
LP12 – Mall of Berlin is the full name of the shopping centre, with LP12 being its address at Leipziger Platz 12. What sounds like a single building is, in fact, a huge building complex with 270 stores over an area of 76,000 square metres. The use of Kampmann technology at the Leipziger Platz is just as extensive and individual as the mall itself.
Kampmann was the only company capable of meeting the specific technical requirement relating to the air conditioning cassettes: the KaCool ceiling and wall-mounted units are supplied with district cooling from Berlin's municipal utilities. It is crucial that the return temperature maintains a constant temperature for its subsequent processing. Kampmann developed software that controls each cassette individually. The system is controlled via a KaControl panel. The proper operation of the system was tested in detail in advance in the company's own Research and Development Centre (FEC). A total of 322 KaCool units are installed in the mall.
Kampmann has also supplied Katherm QK (trench heating with EC tangential fans) and TOP and Ultra unit heaters for the Mall of Berlin. The latter are equipped with special features. The Ultra units are fitted with a special infinitely regulable control.
