New East Wing: modernisation at Geneva Airport
“Genève-Cointrin” Airport is becoming increasingly important due to the growing number of destinations and passengers. The new “Aile Est” terminal has been built to prepare for future growth. The glass and steel construction of the terminal extends over 520 metres in length and 20 metres in width and is angled at 26 degrees. Katherm NK trench units were installed for optimum air conditioning. These convector coils, which are almost invisible by being installed in the floor, are ideal for large glazed façades, guaranteeing efficient air conditioning without impairing the aesthetic design of the terminal.
The “Aile Est” will serve as a modern terminal for long-haul flights, and replaces the existing temporary solution dating back to the 1970s. It provides space for six aircraft to park directly at the gate – a significant improvement compared to the current capacity. The airport has heavily invested in the new terminal to increase the attractiveness of long-haul flights and meet rising demand. The completion of the “Aile Est” represents an important step in the development of Geneva Airport as an international hub.
